Jealous?
Why are you jealous? Yes maybe we are a little addicted to our gadgets. Maybe we should learn to learn put a little distance between our hands and ours phone, but I would not say I was jealous. The older generation didn't have it 'better'. With out new technology we can communicate across the world by typing in seven numbers. We can make connections with families memebers when they're away. Calling for an emergancy is so much easier now. Dial three numbers and they can track your phone to locate you. Phones now have built in GPS, so we can find the places we need to get to faster. Not only does it say how to get to your location it also tells you how long it will take you to get there and the estimated time off arrival. Technology has helped us more that hurt us.

Let's think for a sec -- imagine the world without all these electronic tools and toys. It wasn't that long ago -- and people weren't in the DarknAges until 2000. What did that world have that was maybe -- better -- than now? Have we lost anything with all this tech?
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that the younger generation should be jealous of the older generation when it comes to technology. I believe that technology is a tool that we learn how to utilize to our own personal advantage. I tend to embrace many of the new technologies that are being invented but some of them come with a price. For example, GPS is one of the greatest things that is now built into our phones. People are able to use GPS and google maps to find just about anything these days. The problem of relying on this technology is that many people do not know how to read a map and are unable to navigate themselves around town without GPS. Phones require a connection to a cell tower, satellites, and electricity. There are still places around the world that do not have these capabilities and many people in the older generation would be perfectly fine navigating themselves around throughout the world. I believe that there is a lot that we can learn from the older generation in regards to how people did things prior to new technologies.
ReplyDeleteYou make an excellent point, Sam. Technology is wonderful, but much of our technology relies on satellites and electricity; thus, we become reliant on these things to "navigate throughout the world," in more ways than one. Well said.
